The Folk Tale
The ancient and noble city of Toro, is living history of battles and struggles.
The story of a woman who devoted her entire life to her vines and wines, is whispered throughout the narrow alleys of the city. It was born from the stones and the air which make of Toro such a singular terroir. La Guardesa masters the mysteries that give our Tinta de Toro wines its distinctive character.
The Wine
The eternal protector of this terroir, takes dedicated care of the vines and the wine. She chooses each cluster with magical wisdom, just to create a unique wine that encompasses the essence of Toro wines, the history and true blood of our people. Our wines and spirits fill shared moments with charm, and also the jaunt delivered by every glass, revealing unique tastes born from centenary vines.
Our Terroir
Our very well named Land of Wine, to the south of River Douro, with its sandy soil with high silica content, constituted the natural barrier for the phylloxera, the insect responsible for the destruction of a big part of the vineyards existing in Europe over the end of the 19th century. Century old vineyards that survived the pest, give us grapes of exceptional quality for making our top-quality wines.
Our River
River Douro winds through the plateau and eases the nine months of the Winter that, like the wardress, keeps the vines. Also tempered are the three months of hell that mature a unique fruit. That fruit that arrived from far away, the one she, our terroir and the climate of Toro have defended and saved from extinction.

The spirit of the wardress flew, and sowed its magic in the new world. Fresh and delicately scented white wines grow near the Atlantic Ocean in South America.
